	A new report from the Network Branded Prepaid Card Association (NBPCA) finds that the vast majority of underbanked consumers using a prepaid credit card say the cards are useful and would recommend them to others.

According to the survey, 96 percent of respondents found the cards useful with another 94 percent saying they would recommend them to someone else. Kirsten Trusko, president and executive director of the NBPCA, says that the appeal of the cards is that it allows consumers with poor credit or who have been denied a bank account the ability to budget their finances while still spending like a "mainstream consumer." "This comprehensive survey shows us in explicit terms the value underbanked consumers put on reloadable prepaid cards, which allow them to spend anywhere the brands are accepted," she said. "It is not surprising that they are so quick to recommend the products to their family and friends." One of the biggest benefits of prepaid cards appears to be the fact that it is a secured credit card. The protection these cards give if it is lost or stolen was cited by 84 percent of respondents with another 77 percent saying the ability to carry less cash makes them feel safer. The cards also appear to allow people to better budget their finances with 76 percent saying the ability to spend only the amount on the card is a top benefit.
