	It appears that the downturn in the economy is forcing many young people to cut down on their spending which may mean it's a good time for them to look into prepaid cards.

According to a survey from Junior Achievement and The Allstate Foundation, 27 percent of teens surveyed said the recession is causing their families to eat out less often with another 37 percent reporting that family spending overall has been changed due to the economy. The survey, which was conducted of 1,000 teens in the Houston, Texas area, found that there may be one silver lining coming out of the current recession - parents discussing finances with their kids. Almost 40 percent of teens responded that their parents are talking about the economy more than they did in the past with another 21 percent saying their parents had discussed family finances with them. Junior Achievement says that it is important that parents teach financial literacy to their children at an early age as a way of avoiding financial problems in the future. One way parents can help their children avoid getting into credit card debt is through the use of a prepaid credit card which only allows the child to spend the amount which is loaded onto the card.
