	Many Americans are struggling to make ends meet during the recession and suffering through credit card debt but one financial expert says the key to getting out of debt is watching what you spend.

Wendy Badger, a member of ACA International, told Minnesota television station KARE-TV that that one of the best ways to get out of debt is by creating a budget and sticking to it. People should also watch their spending so they know where their money is going each month. Badger says that all your debt combined - with the exception of a mortgage - should not exceed 20 percent of your monthly income. Another way to make sure debt stays low is to avoid using credit cards in the first pace, according to Badger. She advises using prepaid debit cards which are just as convenient as a credit card, but only allow you to spend the amount on the card or in the account which can help in tracking spending each month. A prepaid credit card or prepaid debit card can also help people who have been denied a bank account or who are looking for a second chance after a run-in with bad credit.
